Grappling is a component of martial arts that uses leverage, holds, and joint-locks to control an opponent. At WGA, we strive to incorporate the best practices from all the grappling arts. This includes techniques from wrestling, jiu-jitsu, judo, and more.

Short answer = no. In fact, training in grappling arts at WGA is a great way to get in shape! Think about it, if you had a tooth ache would you try to brush it away before going to your dentist? Grappling is a very efficient way to get in shape because you train cardio, strength, endurance, flexibility all at once!

Every form of exercise carries a risk of injury. At WGA we take every precaution to train as safely as possible. The techniques we practice do have the potential to cause severe injuries; however, we emphasize understanding the mechanics of the techniques that we practice and other injury-prevention protocols in order to stay safe.

No, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is an essential component of MMA. MMA incorporates more fighting techniques such as punches, kicks, knees, and elbows. BJJ does not involve any striking techniques which reduces the potential for injury and allows as to spare (roll) at higher intensities more frequently.
